PUPILS at Penketh High School are launching a bid for Christmas chart success in aid of charity.

Taking on the winner of the X Factor for the festive number one slot, all proceeds from the Heath Road school’s single Hope will be going to Alder Hey after hearing of Great Sankey youngster Parker's battle with cancer.

As reported in last week’s Warrington Guardian, 15-month-old Parker was diagnosed shortly after his first birthday and has been treated by the Liverpool children’s hospital.

Staff and pupils were so touched by the story they decided they wanted to help and have produced the track, sung by the school choir and written by music teacher Anna Jones, and video in aid of the cause.

Head teacher Ben Dunne said “Producing this single and film has been a fantastic experience for our pupils and reminds us about the importance of community and working together, particularly at Christmas.

“We all now want to raise as much money as possible having read about Parker’s brave fight and the amazing work that staff at Alder Hey Hospital are doing day in and day out to support Parker and his family.

“I’ve been told we only need 5,000 people to buy the track to get into the top 40 which could raise a great amount of money for Alder Hey.”

The song and video follow the school’s successful recreation of the Gangnam Style video in the summer, starring retiring head Jeff Hughes, which clocked more than 300,000 hits on Youtube.

The school’s latest offering has been filmed on location all around Warrington from Sankey Valley Park to the Peace Centre and Golden Square with cameo appearances from Warrington Wolves player Chris Riley and mascot Wolfie.

The story follows the journey of a young boy whose dog goes missing on Christmas Eve and is helped by people in the town to find him.

The track is available to buy from iTunes for 79p.
