POLICE are warning women to be careful walking alone after a 15 year old was sexually assaulted in a Warrington park.

Police say the incident happened between 7pm and 9pm on November 21 but that the attack was reported this week.

The 15-year-old victim was walking in Birchwood Forest Park next to Redshank Lane when she was approached by a man and sexually assaulted, police say.

The man is described as white, in his 20s or 30s, tall, slim build, medium length dark hair, with a fringe, bushy eyebrows. He had a green coloured tattoo on his left forearm, wearing a grey jumper and grey jogging pants. He also had a black, medium sized dog with him.

Detectives are urging anyone who may have been in the area around that time and has seen anyone acting suspiciously or anything significant to come forward.

DI Deborah Dodd said: "The victim is currently receiving support from specially trained officers.

"A number of lines of enquiry are currently being followed up by a dedicated team of officers and we are appealing for anyone who can assist with our enquiries to get in touch.

"Incidents like this are rare and there have been no other reports of similar incidents in this area since.

"However, we would urge people to follow basic safety advice when out and about.

"Remain vigilant when walking alone at night, maintain an awareness of your surroundings and personal safety and always make sure that someone knows where you are going and when you are due back."

Police say they have increased patrols in the area and say anyone worried should speak to a local officer.

Anyone with any information should call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 388 of December 9.
