A 15-month-old toddler, who was diagnosed with cancer shortly after celebrating his first birthday, has shown his parents what a true fighter is as he battles the devastating disease.

Alexandria Mckenzie, from Great Sankey, was shocked into silence when she was told that her first born, Parker, was suffering from a rare type of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma.

But since the diagnosis, when Parker was only 13-months-old, her little boy has been ‘a bundle of energy’ and never stopped smiling.

The 29-year-old said: “He is so happy even when he is having chemo. He really reminds us all to stay positive. He has even managed to charm all the nurses at the hospital.”

Parker has spent most of his time at Alder Hey Hospital, while he battles the disease, with his mother constantly by his side and has already undergone countless sessions of chemotherapy in an effort to beat the cancer.

Mum Alexandria said: “We practically live at Alder Hey now but I am determined to stay positive.

“It is difficult though. Before I nipped out to run a few errands and all the shops were decorated in Christmas decorations.

“I had forgotten it was Christmas and all I could keep thinking about was that Parker should be enjoying this time of year.”

As the treatment fights cancer, it kills healthy blood cells, which leaves patients open to infection.

Parker, who is currently being fed through a tube, has already undergone two blood transfusions with more planned for the new year.

With the 15-month-old forced to endure injections and needles on a daily basis, his friends and family decided to brave one too with around 300 people donating blood in the youngster’s name, calling it a pint for Parker.

The mum of one said: “Parker’s dad and I have got a great support network and would not have been able to cope without everyone around. We can’t thank everyone enough.”

Alexandria also hopes to raise money for Alder Hey Hospital, whose staff have provided endless support at a time when she needed it most.
