A DARESBURY dance and electronic festival has proved it is the cream of the crop after winning a top accolade for the sixth time.

Creamfields picked up the award for Best Dance Event at the UK Festival Awards at London’s Roundhouse.

The August Bank Holiday festival at Daresbury Estate attracted a record breaking 60,000 people this year with a rare headline performance from The Prodigy.

Creamfields 2013 also boasted the biggest stage production ever seen in the UK with a stage triple the size of the previous year armed with six ‘FX towers’ with lasers and pyrotechnics.

The festival team took a tour bus to attend the ceremony in London.

Gill Nightingale, head of communications for Creamfields, said: “We’re overjoyed to win the award for Best Dance Event at this year’s UK Festival Awards.

“This is the sixth time we’ve won since it began 10 years ago and every year we strive to move the festival forward to keep it fresh and original.

“The investment and improvements this year made it our best one yet.

“Never ones to rest on our laurels we’re already planning to do it bigger and better in 2014. “The fact that this award is voted for by the public makes it all the sweeter and we’d like to thank all those who voted. See you next year.”

Creamfields was also nominated for Best Major Festival and Headline Performance of the Year with The Prodigy.

Rock and metal festival Download at Donington Park took the top prize for Best Major Festival.

The winner of Best Line-up went to Latitude Festival while Arctic Monkeys’ performance at Glastonbury beat The Rolling Stones and Elton John for Best Headline Performance.

James Drury, managing director of UK Festival Awards, added: “In this, our 10th year, we had the most fiercely-fought competition for the awards. There were so many incredible festivals taking place this year that it’s not surprising that 575,000 votes were cast by fans from across the world.”
