HOMES across the borough have been switched on to super fast broadband.

More than 9,300 homes now have access to the new technology from BT and in the coming weeks almost 30,000 will be connected to the quicker speeds as engineers complete local upgrades.

The commercial roll out comes in addition to Connecting Cheshire, a £28.5 million partnership between Warrington Borough Council along with others in the region and BT.

Julian Cobley, project director for the Connecting Cheshire partnership, said: “Commercial rollout alongside the Connecting Cheshire investment will contribute significantly to our aspirations to ensure as many homes and businesses as possible have access to super fast broadband services.

“This will help keep our sub-region competitive within the UK but also globally as our day-to-day lives become ever more reliant on digital networks and internet-based technology.”

Mike Blackburn, BT’s regional director for the north west, added: “Our roll-out of fibre broadband continues at a world class pace in the region with Warrington now benefitting. More than two million homes and businesses across the UK are already using our new fibre network. Local residents now have the opportunity to join them and find out for themselves why there’s such a buzz about fibre broadband.

“Whatever you’re doing online, you can do it better and faster with fibre. Whether it’s shopping, downloading music and video, watching TV, social networking, studying or researching homework, once you’ve switched to fibre you’ll never look back. Outside the home, it also has huge potential for public services and city businesses.”
