THE police were called to a full council meeting last night after a councillor refused to leave the meeting after councillors voted for him to go.
Clr Kevin Bennett was speaking out against a vote to select Professor Steven Broomhead as a permanent chief executive for the council.
The Labour councillor had hit out after a question he had wanted to ask about the decision not to adopt the living wage at the last full council meeting was struck off.
After continuing to talk after being asked to stop and the Mayor of Warrington Clr Peter Carey called for an adjournment.
When councillors returned the mayor took a vote on whether to remove Clr Bennett from the room.
The town's Liberal Democrats and Labour Clr Jan Davidson voted against the request but more voted for him to leave.
But Clr Bennett said he was going nowhere.
To which the Mayor replied he would call the police.
After an hour's adjournment Clr Bennett, who spoke to police, agreed to leave the meeting.
