STAFF at the University of Chester are taking part in a one-day national strike today after employers and union groups failed to come to an agreement over pay.

It is unknown whether any lectures or seminars will be disrupted at the university, which has a campus in Padgate.

A spokesman at the university was unable to comment on how many members of staff were taking part in the strike action.

This is the second one-day walk out over a bitter feud about pay.

Staff have previously been offered a pay rise of one per cent, but it is claimed that this represented a 13 per cent pay cut in real terms since October 2008.

The walkout follows a strike by members of Unison, the University and College Union and Unite on October 31.
