HELEN Jones MP added her backing to the work of teaching assistants in classrooms on a visit to Green Lane School.

The Warrington North MP was helping Unison raise awareness of the work teaching assistants do to help with the education of youngsters across the town.

Helen Jones MP said: “It was a delight to visit Green Lane School which does such fantastic work. The role of teaching assistants is hugely undervalued by this Government.

“Michael Gove needs to realise that these are skilled people who do an important job and contribute a huge amount to our children’s education.”

Pam Howard, Warrington Unison branch secretary, added: “Teaching assistants are a class act and schools could not run without them.

“Children and young people trust their teaching assistants and often turn to them when they are struggling at school.”
