A WOMAN has admitted crashing into another car when more than four times over the legal limit to drive.

Halton Magistrates Court heard on Thursday how Ann Elizabeth Cookson, aged 46, of Summer Lane, Hatton, had drunk a bottle of whiskey before the incident on November 4.

She was driving a Volkswagen Passat at 1.15pm out of the car park of a Spar store in Runcorn.

Marie Hayden, prosecuting, said another car entered the car park and, realising there was not enough room to get past the defendant, began to reverse out.

But Cookson drove forward and into the driver’s door of the other car.
She then scraped down the side of it and drove off.

Police were called and went to Cookson’s home address.

After noticing a strong smell of alcohol she was arrested.

Tests showed her to have 153 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Cookson pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop and failing to report an accident.

The court heard Cookson has faced ‘a traumatic couple of years’ and the hearing was adjourned for reports.

Sentencing will take place at a later date.
