MEET our top toy testers helping us to rate the presents children in the town could be waking up to on Christmas morning.

Evie Gillespie, aged six, and Finlay Smith, aged five, both have at least four years’ experience in the field of playing with toys and visited the Toys R Us store in Gemini retail park with scoring cards at the ready.

The pair were given the tricky task of trying out the predicted top 10 toys Warrington youngsters will be asking Father Christmas for this year.

Experts have said this Christmas will see a big move into more interactive app-driven toys including Furby Boom and Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods.

But for starters our two judges, from Chapelford Village and Barrow Hall Community Primary went straight for simpler technology including the Robo Fish and Chasin’ Cheeky game.

Steve Leech, deputy store manager, said: “Most households now have smart phones so a lot of toys have started incorporating the technology.

“But the more traditional items like Lego and Monopoly also fly off the shelves and still remain popular.

“We opened at 8am for the launch of Skylanders as we knew they would be popular and there is a demand for them.

“The internet hasn’t made any difference in store and we still see plenty of families coming in who want to get ideas and kids who like to see what they want.”

After the more traditional, it was on to the techno toys including demonstrations on ‘endless’ game Disney Infinity and the Leap Pad.

Steve added: “It’s hard to explain to people that it’s an endless game where you can do anything so we like to set up demos so children can see what we mean.

“It makes more sense when you can try it yourself so we’ll be doing a lot of that in store.”

AND so for the verdicts: Evie and Finlay said Cheeky was funny as they chased him round throwing hoops over his tail. He scored nine out of 10.

Evie said she thought Flutterbye Flying Fairy was pretty and it was like chasing a real fairy around. She scored eight.

Dads and lads are often spotted playing with the Nerf gun in store. Finlay enjoyed firing it at store mascot Geoffrey and scored 10 out of 10.

Both testers had fun talking to Furby and gave it seven out of 10 and watching the Robo Fish which also scored seven out of 10.

The Leap Pad and Infinity also scored highly and will more than likely be on many youngsters’ lists this year with both picking up nines out of 10.
