WORLD champion Appleton bricklayer Ashley Terron is gearing up to travel to China to provide bricklaying masterclasses next week.

After being crowned the world’s best brickie in July, he will be in China from November Saturday until November 10 across three different provinces to help the country’s colleges broaden their skills.

Ashley has gone from strength-to-strength since his first regional competition at Salford City College and is thankful for those who have helped him on the journey so far.

The 21-year-old said: “China is a great opportunity and my names out there more, more people are aware of me now which is a good thing and it’s just good seeing what offers come in and knowing people recognise you and have heard of your achievements is great.

“My dad’s been a massive influence and taught me the ways and my oldest brother (Scott) has also taught me a lot of stuff which my dad necessarily didn’t have time to teach me.

“But I would say a lot of competition training learning is from my WorldSkills UK training manager Michael Burdett – he’s taught me a lot of tricks that I needed to know, it’s been a joint affair.”

After the China trip Ashley aims to continue to enhance his expertise and achievements as he bids to one day run his own company and oversee brickwork.

He said: “I have a few plans at the minute to try and break in the bespoke market and try to be a consultant on jobs to oversee brickwork whether it be in the UK or international.

“International is a possibility with the likes of China coming up as it will allow me to network and get my name out there.”

On his return to the country, Ashley will be going to the skills show at Birmingham’s NEC as part of the special guest programme where he will be giving tours to Nick Clegg and Princess Anne.

He added: “It’s really good to get opportunities to meet these people and I feel privileged to do so.”
