Great Sankey man found not guilty of 12 counts of sexual offences

A ‘KIND-HEARTED family man’ has been cleared of a string of sexual offences at Chester Crown Court today.
The jury took an hour to find William Fitzgerald, of Michigan Place, Great Sankey, not guilty of five counts of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child and five counts of rape.
The court heard how the two alleged victims, now in their 30s and 40s, changed their story during questioning from police.
One of the alleged victims was also found to have falsely accused her partner of rape during a domestic abuse incident in April 2002.
Police were called to her home during the incident where she later denied the allegation.
There was also no scientific evidence presented during the trial and one alleged victim refused to disclose her medical and counselling records.
The father of two, who has no previous convictions, was accused of raping the victims between the ages of nine and 14.
The alleged victims claimed that the 64-year-old forced them to watch porn, before attacking them.
Mr Fitzgerald, who has protested his innocence throughout the trial, was found not guilty on a unanimous verdict.
