ARPLEY tip bosses have got 60 days to stop flouting the law and dumping rubbish after their licence has expired to use the site.

Warrington Borough Council has issued the warning after officers found last week landfill waste was still being imported to the Sankey Bridges tip.

The Warrington Guardian reported last week councillors described FCC Environment’s actions as an ‘insult’ to residents who have been campaigning for years for the site to be closed.

Clr Hitesh Patel (LAB- Great Sankey South) said: "As local ward councillors we welcome this latest action by the Labour run council.

"It is reassuring to see the council is using every avenue, whether through negotiation or through a legal process, to address the concerns of local residents who are totally fed up with the way their lives and that of their children are being affected by FCC.

"We are calling on the tip operators to respect the rule of law and more importantly respect the needs of local residents and to stop their operations."

A council spokesman said: "A breach of condition notice was served on October 17.

“The notice requires the developer to ‘Cease waste disposal operations other than the import and disposal of inert fill materials where carried out in strict accordance with a restoration scheme approved under Condition 3 of planning permission reference number 85/17988’.

“The compliance period for the notice is 60 days beginning with the day on which the notice was served.”
