VIDEO: A night out in Warrington - in retaliation to the Daily Mail
6:00am Thursday 24th October 2013 in News
A VIDEO has been made to show the positive side of a night out on Bridge Street in retaliation to controversial pictures in the Daily Mail.
Charlotte France, aged 21, who works part time in Reef Bar, filmed and edited the video, with help from staff in other bars.
The television production graduate said: “I went around as many bars and businesses as I could and filmed everything.
“I didn’t have to stop or miss anything out - everything I recorded was put in the video.
“There was nothing bad to film, and nothing I didn’t want to film.
“Everybody was having a good time.”
Pubwatch, the group of owners and landlords on Bridge Street, requested the video following anger over pictures used in the tabloid.
As revealed in the Warrington Guardian, it lead to a clash between Warrington Borough Council and Cheshire Police, with deputy leader Clr Mike Hannon saying the town had been ‘totally exploited’.
The four minute clip shows the inside of bars, and revellers walking on Bridge Street.
Staff, bouncers, and residents are all interviewed.
Those enjoying a night out say they feel safe, while door staff say Warrington is a good place to work with people mainly out to enjoy themselves.
Charlotte, who grew up in Birchwood but now lives in Manchester, admitted the video could be seen as biased but maintains Warrington is safer to go out in than big cities.
“I love working here - everyone is having a laugh and getting along,” she said.
“The people who make somewhere bad are the ones who just want to get off their face.
“They don’t care about their own image, so they won’t care about the town’s image.
“The vast majority of people are out to have a good time, so it’s just a case of staying away from the ones that aren’t.”
