FOR rock fans of a certain age it was time travel night at the Parr Hall.

Manchester band Sad Café, who had had several hits and a big following in the late 70s and 80s, have reformed and are touring again for the first time in 25 years.

Would it be zimmer frame rock or a revitalised return to the anthems of yesteryear?

The answer was resoundingly the latter.

From the opening ‘On with the show’ to the rousing encore ‘My Oh My’ they had the Parr Hall rocking with their energy and musicianship. They always had a reputation as a great live band and guitarists Ashley Mulford, backed up by Ian Wilson and new member Steve Whalley gave their ‘fan’s favourites’ set freshness and real power.

Ears ringing but happy, the audience gave them a standing ovation.

More please...and don’t make us wait another quarter of a century.
