Poker face Colin is off to Las Vegas

MEET the man who must be feeling royally flushed with pride after his poker face won him an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas.
Father-of-four Colin Clayton clinched his flight to the gambling capital of the world after a tense final involving more than 200 of the country’s best amateur pub poker players in Sheffield.
The 57-year-old, from Orford, will be in with the chance of winning the top prize of £5,000 during the trip in May and says he will not be distracted by the one armed bandit slot machines during his stay but is tempted to have a go on the ‘Big one’ where £1m can be won.
Colin, who has been playing at the Seven Woods pub for the last six years, said: “The top 10 were going through out of 11 so people were hanging on for ages and it was going round and round with nobody betting.
“I thought to myself ‘I’ve got to make something happen here’ and took advantage of the situation to become chip leader.
“The whole room was elated when it happened.
“By the time I got home it was all over Facebook and both my daughters were jumping up and down for joy.
“Without the support of the team at Seven Woods I would not have got there.”
The former Army man, who has previously appeared on the front page of the Warrington Guardian as he was in the first car in Iraq in 1991, says he got the poker bug after winning his first competition and making it through to the finals on Channel Four.
Despite only playing for nine years the corporate entertainment businessman says rather than viewing Vegas as a holiday, he is going out to win.
He added: “During my first competition I was more worried about the etiquette side of things having only been playing for six months rather than my game.
“There’s always an element of luck in any game but I would say to people to just enjoy it, learn from your mistakes and don’t take it too seriously.”
The competition adds to a year of celebrations in 2014 as Colin’s wife Renate celebrates her 60th birthday and the couple mark 40 years of marriage.
He will be one of 100 players travelling to the United States after competing in the Redtooth Poker Vegas 100 tournament.
