Yellow lines U turn is victory for common sense

RESIDENTS on Elaine Street have been celebrating a ‘victory for common sense’ after seeing red over pointless double yellow lines.
As reported in the Warrington Guardian earlier this month, homeowners had become increasingly frustrated over the council slapping parking fines on their cars when they live on a dead end.
The group had claimed the only people who park on the road at the junction with Marsh House Lane are the residents who live on it and fines were regularly written off once calls were made to the council.
Following complaints surrounding the repainting of double yellow lines and the subsequent ticketing of a resident twice in two days, councillors Tony Higgins and Peter Carey took up the case to get the nuisance lines removed.
Clr Carey said: "Having recently visited this area on a street walk about it was clearly apparent that these lines were adding to the parking problems at this end of Elaine street.
“With thanks to clr Tony Higgins we successfully lobbied the highways department quickly to get these lines removed which will hopefully be done soon."
Clr Tony Higgins added: "This is a victory for common sense and hopefully now the residents of this particular end of Elaine street can now relax in the knowledge that when they park their car they can without the fear of a dreaded parking ticket."
A council spokesman confirmed residents in the area were now being consulted over whether they supported the proposal to have the double yellow lines removed.
He added: “The authority has received a number of complaints from local residents regarding unnecessary yellow lines located on Elaine Street next to Marsh House Lane.
“In response to these complaints, the council is proposing to remove the double yellow lines as it is considered they are no longer required following the closure of the junction.”
