Miss England opens new head office in Warrington

FORMER Miss England Georgia Horsley has been raising awareness of the new technology available to people with hearing problems.
The model, who recently got engaged to Danny Jones from boyband McFly, was in town for the opening of the new UK headquarters for hearing aid specialist Phonak in Centre Park.
The 26-year-old, from Norton, lost her hearing aged two in her right ear after suspected meningitis but is now a role model for many youngsters with hearing problems after never letting it hold her back.
Georgia said: “When I was 10-years-old the only thing they could do for me was a big hearing aid with a wire going across my head and battery pack in my pocket.
“At that age you really don’t want something that’s going to make you look different and probably sometimes I was unaware I was struggling with my hearing.
“When I first met my fiance’s bandmates they thought I was quite rude, it was only when they got to know me better and found out I was deaf in one ear they realised I wasn’t ignoring them I just hadn’t heard them.”
Georgia told Miss England organisers about her hearing problem after she won the competition in 2007 and admits she did not hear her name being called out and had to be nudged by another contestant.
In the last month she had a Phonak hearing aid fitted and said it has felt like she has ‘super power’ hearing.
She said: “It was bizarre.
“I had to adapt and would be distracted by noises around me because I wasn’t used to hearing them.
“I always thought I was fine but then there was a few comments that made me think maybe I wasn’t hearing everything I should be.
“At first it felt like I had a hearing super power and I would be asking my mum if she could hear other people talking too!”
