1:00pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
Accepting the award are husband Chris, mum Siv Brown, handball player Holly Lam-Moores and Keith Thompson, from Raddon Court
“AFTER all the hard work she put into life it’s a privilege and an honour to pick up this award on Camilla’s behalf.”
Chris Bowman speaks of his pride in seeing his wife Camilla pick up the Act of Courage Award for her tireless work to help others despite fighting cancer herself.
Camilla died in August from the condition, aged just 28, after first being diagnosed with breast cancer a week before her wedding at 27.
But despite battling illness Camilla still wanted to help others and put them first by becoming involved in the support group Sarah’s Stars who offer support for younger women with breast cancer.
She was always there for those other women in the group and her determination not to let the disease stop her saw her go in to business with Chris to set up their Crystal Clear Vapour stores across the region to help people try and cut down and stop smoking.
Siv Brown, Camilla’s mum who was also there to accept the award on Camilla’s behalf, added: “I’m so grateful. Camilla was so brave and strong and she would have buzzed off this evening and the award.
“She didn’t ask anyone to pity her - she was positive the entire time during her treatment.”
