Meet strictly star Garry
4:00pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
MEET the latest Warrington Strictly contestant - Golden Gates Housing's Gary Cookson.
Contestant: Gary Cookson
Occupation: HR Manager at Golden Gates Housing Trust
About Gary Gary Cookson lives in Winsford and has two children aged 12 and eight. He has been the HR Manager for Golden Gates Housing for the past nine years. Gary is a very keen sportsman and describes the gym as his second home. He frequently takes part in triathlons. He prefers individual sports which allow him to be self-disciplined and challenged by new experiences.
Involvement with St Rocco’s His involvement with St Rocco’s is based around the corporate relationship Golden Gates Housing have had with the hospice for many years. Originally the chance to take part in Strictly st Rocco’s was given to the chief executive who then opened it up to his senior management team where Gary jumped at the chance to take place. Gary lives close to St Luke’s Hospice and feels that providing the type of care offered by a hospice would be a cause everyone should be involved with.
Experience with dancing I have had mixed experience with dancing having taken part in zumba and street dance classes as well as partnering a friend in Ceroc dancing. I love the challenge that dance brings in terms of timing and sequencing combined with the physical activity.
Are you happy with your dance?
I am very happy with my dance and have total confidence in choreographer Sharon’s decision. The routine is very challenging because the timing is complicated and it also requires strong facial expression and plenty of arm movement so my concern is remembering all the components at the same time. I am well into my training any my partner is lovely and very patient.
Are you excited, nervous or looking forward to the event?
I’m really looking forward to the event and am confident in doing well. It all still seems a long way away but I realise December the 1st will be here before I know it.
If you would like to support both Gary and the hospice please visit Gary’s online fundraising page at strictlystroccos.everydayhero.com/uk/garycookson.
SEE who will lift the St Rocco’s glitterball trophy on Sunday, December 1 at Mere Golf Resort.
After a champagne reception and dinner watch the 10 amateurs take to the floor with their professional partners as they perform a range of ballroom and Latin classics.
They will then face the panel of judges who will score each dance before the audience have the chance to vote for their favourites.
To book places contact the fundraising team at St Rocco’s on 575780 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
