Climbing up Snowdon - for charity - barefoot!
12:00pm Saturday 12th October 2013 in News
WAYNE Evans has a spring in his step after having been inspired to climb Snowdon bare foot for charity.
Wayne, aged 38, of Foxhills Close, Appleton, climbed along the Pyg track lat month wearing no footwear at all, his painful ascent lasted two and a half hours.
Wayne said the crazy idea came to mind when he saw someone attempting the climb in flip-flops.
The flip-flop wielding climber, who according to Wayne was “obviously taking the Michael”, made him bet his climbing mates that he could do the climb bare foot.
He said: “I wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK because cancer is an illness which touches us all at some point.”
The climb was becoming unbearable towards the summit but the wind, often blowing at very high speeds, had numbed his feet enough to help him make it up to the summit stone.
However Wayne’s father who accompanied him on the climb seemed to have suffered the most.
He ended up complaining about a blister from his walking boots.
Wayne has managed to raise £550 so far, more than half way to his £1,000 target.
He has uploaded clips of his climb on Youtube, which can be found by searching Wayne Evans Snowdon.
He is also still collecting donations on his JustGiving page found at justgiving.com/Wayne-Evans2013.
