Bank Park plans unveiled
2:10pm Friday 4th October 2013 in News
PLANS for a redeveloped Bank Park have been unveiled and include plans for a new pavilions.
The town centre park, which has for more than 150 years been a focal point for homecomings, walking days and events, is part of an ambitious programme to regenerate the town’s parks called ‘Your Parks, Our Parks’.
And after councillors on the executive board approved funding for the £1.3 million redevelopment which includes the new pavilion and cafe, public events space and new toilets in March the plans are now on show.
There are also plans to create a new all-weather bowling green.
Clr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Bank Park truly is one of Warrington’s gems and we want to protect its grand heritage but ensure that its future offers and provides the types of facilities that the community want to see and use.
“We want to hear ideas from the people of Warrington for this facility. We want to share the pavilion plans, hear what the people think and how the building could be best used to suit the needs of the community.
“The architect has incorporated into the design changing facilities for the bowling greens and a space for a café. Perhaps, for instance, the café could double as a meeting space in the evenings, or incorporate a heritage centre.
"Or, possibly, the café could hire out bowls, play equipment or even deck chairs to be used in the park. These are just ideas. We want to know what the people of Warrington want to see.”
The initial plans are available to view online and comment on at warrington.gov.uk/bankpark. The initial consultation will run until Friday, November 1.
