Warrington Borough Council takes sledgehammer to smoking habits
11:40am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
WARRINGTON Borough Council’s new smoke free work policy will remove facilities for smoking, such as designated smoking areas in or surrounding council buildings.
It has adopted a tough new stance on smoking, attempting to help people quit smoking or using e-cigarettes.
Also council employees must clock out before taking smoke breaks and their council badges or logos must be covered or hidden.
Smoking will not be permitted in or around any council vehicle and no smoking signs must be displayed in them at all times.
Clr David Keane, the council’s executive board member for public protection said: “The council has a clear duty to promote public health and wellbeing, and also a legal duty as an employer to protect the health of employees. As part of this we need to make sure we don’t encourage or normalise smoking.”
