Padgate man threatened to bite off police officer's nose

A 'COKE head' who threatened to bite off a police officer's nose was branded one 'of the worst cases we have seen for some time' by Magistrates.
Paul William Braid, aged 28, of St Mawgan Court, Padgate, made the threats when under the influence of drugs after officers were called to a domestic dispute.
Halton Magistrates Court heard he screamed expletives, broke a window and threw a cast iron wall art piece and glasses at police.
Braid also threatened to get a shotgun and shoot them.
Alison Warburton, prosecuting, said he formed the shape of a gun with his hand during the incident on July 21 and threatened to burn the house down.
Braid, who has 24 previous convictions including a 44 month prison sentence for robbery, pleaded guilty to affray last month.
Gary Heaven, defending, said he had been drinking and taking drugs, and that the threats were mainly verbal.
Magistrates said they were 'appalled' by the incident and sentenced Braid to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months.
He will also complete an 18 month supervision and alcohol programme.
