Appleton Thorn triplets going for gold
12:40pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
THREE members of the Hall family from Appleton Thorn are the first triplets in the north west to achieve the gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
Katie, Christopher and Richard Hall, aged 19, travelled down to St James’ Palace in London to receive the award from Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex.
Katie, who attended Bridgewater High School with her brothers, said: “We have always enjoyed the outdoors and would always go out walking on family days out.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was really good fun. The challenge was finding a walking pace that we were all happy with.”
Katie, Christopher and Richard, who are all in their second year of university at Durham, Stirling and Coventry respectively, completed their bronze Duke of Edinburgh aged 14 and have taken part in a range of activities in a bid to get their hands on the award.
From working as young leaders at the Appleton Scout Group to volunteering at cat homes in Warrington, the triplets have thrown themselves into the community.
Katie said: “We all had to do a residential for a week. I did mine at Soul Survivor, which is a Christian festival in Somerset.
“It was the longest time we’d spent apart but it was good as it prepared us for university and finally gave me some breathing space from my brothers,” joked Katie.
