Warrington Labour deliver fuel freeze message
8:50am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
THE campaign to freeze fuel prizes hit the town as Warrington Labour members set up stall to talk to residents about their fuel problems.
Labour leader Ed Miliband announced at his party conference his plan to freeze fuel prices up to 2017 should Labour be elected in the next election.
Nick Bent, Warrington South Labour Parliamentary candidate took to the streets with Labour council leader Clr Terry O’Neill and 25 Labour volunteers to hold a street stall giving out thousands of energy freeze leaflets and getting more than 200 names on their petition.
The estimated 20 month freeze from Labour’s plans could help a typical household save £120 a year say the party.
Mr Bent said: “Labour’s pledge to freeze energy prices is pro-family and pro-business and the sooner it happens the better. It’s time for David Cameron to stop indulging the Big Six energy firms and to back Ed Miliband in freezing prices for households and businesses.”
Clr O’Neill also helped promote the Big Community Switch, a partnership between dozens of councils which will allow registered residents to collectively negotiate a big group discount on their energy bills.
He added: “In these tough times our Labour council is committed to finding new ways to help local residents save money through mutually beneficial initiatives and I urge more Warrington residents to sign up now."
