Power station workers suspended after failing drugs test
5:14pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
FOUR workers at Fiddlers Ferry Power Station have been suspended after failing random drug tests on Monday.
Costain, the company which provides staff to the site, confirmed the suspensions today, Friday.
Witnesses say employees who tested positive were escorted from the premises immediately.
A Costain spokesman said: “A cross section of staff from various sectors on site were randomly chosen and the sampling company involved sampled 15 staff from approximately 100 permanent site staff across the differing range of work disciplines.
“Four staff showed a positive result to the drugs test.
“No staff tested positive to alcohol.
“The four staff were suspended without prejudice on full pay pending laboratory testing results - in line with Costain procedures.
“The testing programme is part of the Costain drugs and alcohol policy and similar screenings are carried out at regular intervals throughout the year within Costain.”
Details of what roles the employees who tested positive performed in were not disclosed by Costain.
