More roadworks on Ellesmere Road
4:25pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
MOTORISTS are set for another traffic headache as a section of Ellesmere Road in Stockton Heath closes for six weeks from Monday.
The major roadworks will allow water giant United Utilities engineers to gain access to pipes 20 metres below the ship canal.
Bob Dykes, project co-ordinator, said: “We know this will be a pain.
“Diversions will be in place and we will complete this part of our work as quickly as we can.
“Replacing the water mains under the canal is vital for people and businesses across Warrington because the pipes are showing their age and might otherwise corrode and burst. That’s something no-one wants.”
Ellesmere Road will be closed from the junction with London Road to outside St Thomas’ Church Hall until mid November with the diversion route taking people along Blackley Street and Egerton Street.
Once it is re-opened it will revert to the temporary single lane closure and traffic lights which have been in operation over the summer.
