Baker Sheila's heart of gold

MARY Berry watch out - there's a new baker in town and she has a heart of gold too.
Sheila Dolan bakes more than 80 Eccles cakes a week but instead of enjoying the fruits of her labour she gives the batches of baked goods away to people who are sick or in need.
The 69-year-old, from Wilderspool, said: "I have always been told even if you don't have much, what you do have, you shouldn't hide it away - you should share it."
Twice a week, Sheila will don her apron and whip up a batch of Eccles cakes which she will hand out to people to help put a smile back on their faces.
Sheila discovered her love of baking from a family friend, Elizabeth Bate, who she affectionately calls 'auntie'.
"She asked my mum could she share me with her," remembered Sheila. "We would spend a lot of time with her and she taught me all about baking."
"She would say to me 'if you are putting a cook in the oven then do not keep it to yourself' and I never forgot that."
From steak pies to scones, Sheila loves to bake and nothing will stop her from putting batch after batch of delicious treats in the oven.
Sheila, who has to sit down to bake because of her bad back, said: "I just love it. I have had anxiety for 30 years and baking is like therapy to me."
The talented baker has been giving away her Eccles cakes for 16 years and isn't planning on stopping anytime soon.
"I'm not doing it for any recognition but if a couple of cakes can cheer someone up then that's what I am going to do," said Sheila.
