Man threatened to bottle police officer
6:00am Wednesday 25th September 2013 in News
A MAN threatened to bottle a police officer because of ‘voices’ in his head.
David Paul Robson, aged 33, of Morris Avenue, Westy, threatened police following an incident at the Home Bargain store on Riverside Retail Park, Latchford.
The defendant is a paranoid schizophrenic supported by mental health teams.
Halton Magistrates Court heard on Thursday how he reacted angrily after staff asked to search his bag following reports he was acting suspiciously.
Two bottles of cider were in it, and when a store manager confiscated them Robson became ‘aggressive’.
Alison Warburton, prosecuting, said: “The defendant said ‘I’ll fight you, come on’.
“He shouted and swore at officers when they arrived.
“He said he would bottle the officers because of voices in his head.”
The court heard that although Robson could not provide proof of purchase for the cider, it was his and was not stolen.
He pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour.
Gary Heaven, defending, said: “It’s clear that Mr Robson was upset.
“A little while ago Mr Robson’s mother died at a rather young age.
“It was an extremely distressing experience for him not least because it left him in a considerable amount of debt.
“It’s fair to say that on his return to the north west, Mr Robson ‘hit it hard’.
“Before the incident he had rather a lot to drink.
“He was behaving erratically not suspiciously.”
Robson has seven previous convictions for 14 offences.
He was jailed for 16 weeks in April after being arrested in the town centre carrying three weapons - a lock knife, knuckle duster and metal flail.
During a police interview Robson claimed he bought the knife to cut back a Bonsai tree he owned.
He claimed the knuckle duster was bought accidentally, sown into jeans purchased from Warrington Market.
And the flail, found on a building site, was used to weigh down keys in his pocket.
