Young achievers celebrated in town
4:00pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
ACHIEVEMENTS of youth volunteers in the town have been recognised at a showcase event at Walton Hall.
The ‘Future of Us’ event last week was held to reward the work of young people on Warrington Borough Council’s Brighter Futures team over the last 18 months.
Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs, and the Deputy Mayor of Warrington, Clr Ted Finnegan, handed over awards.
They included certificates in mentoring, food hygiene and for 100 hours of voluntary work.
Clr Colin Froggatt, executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “Many of the young people who shared their stories at the event came to the team at the council when they were out of education, employment and training and to see how their journeys have progressed is brilliant.”
Brighter Futures has supported 61 volunteers, referred 48 young people to the Mentor Me project, and helped 24 young people access the Xpand project.
For more information call the team on 636856 or go to warrington.gov.uk and search Brighter Futures.
