A DRINK in the pub turned into 50 golden years of marriage for Christine and Eric Cross.
The couple, of Hawthorn Grove, Latchford, first met when Eric walked in to The Vines where Christine was with friends.
Christine, aged 68, said: “We were on our way to the Parr Hall and we used to go in the pub beforehand.
“Eric walked past my friend and she said are you going to chat to us and he said no but I’m walk your friend home.
“He took me home that night and came round the next day and things went from there.”
Christine and Eric, now aged 76, married at Warrington Register Office on October 5 and settled in to married life in their Latchford home.
Christine worked at Johnson Wireworks and Eric worked in the building trade before becoming a driver.
They celebrated their anniversary with a trip away to Greece and are looking forward to a family dinner with their four children, 10 grandchildren and six great granddaughters.
And what is their secret to a long and happy marriage?
“It’s about trust and love. You have to work at a marriage. It’s not always a bed of roses but you have to work together,” added Christine.
