No insurance drivers targeted in police campaign
12:20pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
DRIVERS with no insurance are being targeted in a police campaign.
It has seen 22 uninsured motorists arrested with cars seized in Halton and Warrington in September.
And 102 have been arrested across the county.
Officers estimate there are around 20,000 drivers who do not have insurance in Cheshire.
Chf Insp Richard Reeves said: "Throughout September officers across Cheshire are focussing on making sure these people are caught and dealt with appropriately in a bid to get the message home that driving without insurance will not be accepted.
"The increasing cost of insurance premiums is affected by the number of claims made every year from people who have been involved in collisions with uninsured drivers."
Drivers caught with no insurance can be fined £300, with vehicles sold at auction if not reclaimed within 14 days.
Call the Insurance Fraud Bureau to report uninsured drivers by calling 0800 422 0421, or online at insurancefraudbureau.org/report.
