A BRIDGE in Higher Walton needs repairing after it was ‘seriously damaged’ when hit by a car.
Police were called to the incident on Wednesday morning at Acton Grange Bridge on Holly Head Lane.
Officers say it had been struck overnight by a vehicle with pieces of the bridge falling off into the Bridgewater Canal.
The road was closed by police for several hours as engineers from Warrington Borough Council carried out an inspection.
It is owned by Peel Holdings.
A council spokesman said: “The council is now in discussions with the bridge owner about the necessary repairs but it is expected these will be carried out in the next couple of weeks.”
