HOMES were evacuated as a first floor flat on Budworth Avenue was destroyed by fire.
It is not yet clear what caused the blaze with Cheshire Fire and Rescue and Cheshire Police investigating.
Four fire engines were called to the property at 3.15am today, Wednesday.
Residents in neighbouring properties were asked to leave as firefighters wearing breathing equipment went to tackle the fire.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire said: “One main jet was used along with two hose reel jets to get the fire under control.
“Breathing apparatus wearers worked their way through the flat with a hose reel, along with a firefighter working with a hose reel from a seven metre ladder outside.
“Another firefighter worked from the next door property, damping down through a loft hatch.
“Crews also worked in the kitchen area removing the ceiling and looking for hotspots of fire.
“They then turned over debris and removed it through a first floor window.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
It is not believed anyone was injured during the blaze.
Police remained at the scene until around 4.30am.
Anyone with information can call police on 101.
