1:47pm Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
Three men responsible for a string of armed robberies including two raids in Culcheth have been jailed.
Leigh residents Stephen Grimshaw, aged 30, and Mark Wohler, aged 28, and Christopher Molyneux, aged 26, of no fixed abode, were sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today, Tuesday.
The trio committed an armed robbery at the Co-op, Common Lane, on February 18 2012, stealing a large amount of cash and cigarettes.
They also burgled a house on Brookfield Road five days later, taking a Renault Megane.
The men carried out 33 armed robberies and burglaries between 21 January and 12 April last year in Cheshire and Wigan.
Wearing masks, they used machetes, knives and hammers to threaten shop staff and homeowners.
Cars and motorbikes worth hundreds of thousands of pounds were stolen and used in the raids.
Molyneux was jailed for nine years, Grimshaw for eight years and Wohler for eight years and four months.
DC Alison Wallwork, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "For anyone who was been subjected to this sort of violent and terrifying robbery, they will understand why it is so important men like this are locked up where they can cause no more harm.”
