A NEW trust to preserve the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics has been launched.
The Big Lottery Fund has agreed an investment of £40m to formally launch the Spirit of 2012 Trust.
On the board of the new organisation is former leader of Warrington Borough Council John Gartside, along with former Paralympic champion Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and UK Sport chief Baroness Sue Campbell, The trust will aim to build on the legacy of volunteering by the ‘Games Makers’ during the Olympics as well as increase the perception of disabled people following the Paralympics.
It is planned that this will continue until and beyond the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year.
The Trust will be ‘open for business’ later in the autumn and more announcements will follow including details of its first funding programmes.
