Orford benefit cheat told to pay back more than £7,000

A BENEFIT cheat from Orford has been caught and sentenced for falsely claiming £7,554.
Tanya Devey, of Honister Avenue, pleaded guilty to two charges of benefit fraud at Warrington Magistrates’ Court. She was sentenced to a 12 month community order, 100 hours of unpaid work, £350 in costs and had to repay the overpayment.
Devey, aged 25, was claiming benefits for a single person while she was married and living with her husband. Between August 2011 and February 2013 she cheated the council of £6,403 housing benefit and £1,151 council tax benefit.
