St Joseph's Family Centre's Warrington style marathon walk
9:10am Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
WORKERS at a family centre are preparing themselves for a Warrington-style marathon.
St Joseph’s Family Centre is an independent charity based on Museum Street in the town centre.
They offer a range of services to reflect the difficulties faced by adults and children in modern-day life.
The charity are currently welcoming donations to fund their Seasons to Growth scheme – a specialised programme which provides support for children who have lost someone significant to death, divorce, separation or abandonment.
Seasons for Growth is organised by the charity’s workers who carry out after-school bereavement sessions which include therapeutic activities in groups and even a visit to the town’s mayor.
The charity was first founded in 1917, but has undergone several different incarnations since then. Many of the charity’s other schemes receive funding; however they are heavily reliant upon donations to fund this particular scheme.
To do this, eight staff and volunteers will be walking 26-miles on Sunday, with a further 10 joining in for sections of the route.
The journey will begin at the London Bridge pub on London Road, Stockton Heath. The team will then follow a route through Preston Brook, Whitley, Antrobus, Arley and Appleton before returning to the London Bridge to finish.
