Birchwood jobs to move to Hull and India
12:30pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
WORKERS at a TalkTalk contact centre in Birchwood have been told their jobs are being outsourced to Hull and India.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) have voiced their concerns at the figure of up to 120 jobs being moved to different locations from its base.
But TalkTalk say it will be carrying out consultations with staff and with changes to customer operations means new roles will be created in Warrington.
Nearly 50 business sales agents were told their jobs are moving to a company in Hull and 70 technical support staff for residential customers that their jobs were being outsourced to a different company based in India, say the union.
And union bosses said the company was not implementing standard redundancy arrangements by offering staff the default option of transferring their employment and relocating to one of the new companies.
CWU branch secretary Rob Alldritt said: “Unfortunately TalkTalk have always refused to recognise the union so we are unable to discuss or negotiate with them on the current proposals, though we have written to them raising several points of concern.”
A worker at the centre added: “The mood in the whole building, for the few remaining staff is very negative. We’re just seen as overheads and it’s only a matter of time before we’re next. The quality of service we are able to deliver continues to decline, but until it hits their profits, they just don’t care.”
A TalkTalk spokesman said: "In consumer operations, customer experience improvements resulting in fewer customer calls to the company means that ‘fault management’ can be concentrated on two locations, rather than the current five.
“There are also planned changes to the TV operations team in Warrington and to those responsible for managing relationships with strategic partners.
“Two new teams will be formed to work with our partners, based in London.
"For TalkTalk Business, roles are under consultation in Warrington as a more effective way of managing sales to customers is introduced. Small office home office sales will move to a strategic partner, Clearanswer, based in Hull. A new senior sales team formed will create new roles, based in Warrington."
