Stork spotted in town

ORGANISERS of a stork relay raising awareness of the plight of independent midwives have described events at the weekend a big success.
Mums, midwives and babies across the country joined in with the campaign to raise awareness over changes to insurance laws which could soon mean independent midwifery is made illegal.
The journey, which included a leg with Warrington residents travelling from the town hall to Manchester, finished in Downing Street with campaigners delivering a toy baby to ask for Prime Minister David Cameron’s help on the issue.
Great Sankey mum Clare Ball, whose first child Grace was born last year with the support of an independent midwife, said she was delighted to be involved.
The 36-year-old added: “A lot of people think you have to pay for an independent midwife but a lot of services aren’t chargeable.
“It was nice to give something back and raise awareness that there are other choices out there for women.”
