Puppies and kittens looking for homes at RSPCA
3:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in News
MEET this group of cuties at the RSPCA centre looking for new homes.
They are some of the many animals in need of new owners at a time when the charity are seeing an increase in abandoned animals as owners move into rented accommodation.
It means the centre is in need more than ever before of cash to keep them going.
Chris Walkden, centre manager, said: “Over 24 hours last week one cat was abandoned on the road at the back of the centre with just a towel and two toys and then two cats were left in the car park.
“We had someone ring us recently because they couldn’t look after their mum’s cat anymore after she had died but they expect you to take the animal that day.
“They call saying they’re pregnant and due in a week and don’t want their pet anymore or they’re being evicted the next day but we need a bit of notice.
“It makes me feel angry seeing cats abandoned outside because we never say no, we just ask people to be patient but they think we have got lots of room which isn’t true.”
A number of cross breed puppies, who were born at the centre, and kittens will be looking for new homes soon as well as a puppy staffie who was taken to the RSPCA due to domestic violence at home.
Chris, who will have worked at the centre for 29 years in October, added: “If we were to close I don’t know what would happen to animals in situations like that.
“We have just rehomed a dog that has been at the centre for more than a year and seeing animals going to new homes makes the job worthwhile.”
Visit the Slutchers Lane centre between 12 and 4pm daily except on Tuesdays or call 632944.
A fundraising dinner and charity auction will take place at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on October 5 from 7.30pm.
Tickets are £25 including a two course meal and raffle entry and are available from the Warrington branch.
