Brakes ready to open on Omega
7:00am Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
THE brakes are off at Omega as the first business takes up residence at the business park.
Brakes has been handed the keys to the vast logistics centre which takes up a quarter of the Omega North site based to the north of the M62.
And the heat is off as the development was delivered to schedule as the food distributor now turns down the temperature to -26c ready to be filled with products set to be shipped across the country.
With work also quickly progressing on the Hermes distribution centre motorists cannot fail to notice Omega starting to take shape.
Neil Johnston, from Omega Warrington Limited and a director at Miller Developments, said: “It’s had some barriers but we are seeing the improvement in the market and we keep working.
“When you’re marketing the site and something is here and the infastructure is in place it helps and keeps interest up.
“We still have two units available on Omega North and Travis Perkins will be breaking ground in late September.
“The next investment is on Omega South to put in the infastructure for the road on that site.”
Neil Pickering, head of area – Liverpool City Region, Warrington and Cheshire for the Homes and Communities Agency, added:“It’s very substantial that project because the focus has been in the north and the south is a big challenge because of the scale so to get the first project underway means we are getting the south to the market.”
The three developments already underway will create 1,400 jobs with more to come thanks to the redevelopment of the former airbase.
And the prospect of jobs is welcomed by council leader Clr Terry O’Neill.
He said: “The airbase and the Americans were good employers for the community and now hopefully this development will do the same.
“With it been a logistics site there are 40 per cent which are hi-tech staff but there is also the warehouse staff who will be doing things like operating forklift trucks and it offers jobs to a wide range of people with a variety of skills.”
