TB on the rise in Cheshire
10:30am Monday 26th August 2013 in News
NEW figures have found the number of cases of tuberculosis (TB) have increased in Cheshire and Merseyside in the last year.
There were 113 reports of TB in 2012 compared to 95 the previous year.
Dr Evdokia Dardamissis, TB lead from the Cheshire and Merseyside PHE Centre, said: “TB is a preventable and treatable condition but if left untreated can be life threatening.
“Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key to reducing TB levels in the UK.”
He added work was in place to improve uptake of TB screening among high risk groups including the homeless, drug and alcohol users.
