Man stole alcohol to deal with the death of David Brown

A REPEAT offender claims he stole alcohol to help him deal with the death of friend who was ‘like a son to him’.
Jeffrey Lavelle, of Reynolds Street, has struggled to come to terms with the death of David Brown, who died on August 11 following an assault on Manchester Road Lavelle was arrested on Monday after stealing a box of Lambrini and three bottles on wine from the B&M store in Warrington.
Lavelle pleaded guilty to the offence claiming he stole the goods because ‘he had had a bad day’.
The 58-year-old, who already has 127 convictions for 206 offences, was currently on a conditional discharge when he stole the goods worth £15.76.
The chairman of the bench, Stephen Storey labelled the situation ‘a sorry state of affairs’ and ordered Lavelle to serve a further conditional discharge of 18 months alongside the original 12 months.
