Workers at Novelis stage walkout over pay dispute
12:56pm Wednesday 14th August 2013 in News
PRODUCTION technicians at the world's leading aluminium can recycler in Latchford plan to strike over a dispute about pay.
A group of 22 workers from Novelis will stage a walkout after getting the backing from the union group GMB.
Strike action was a last resort after bosses at the company failed to come to a compromise with workers over pay packages.
Workers are requesting a 3 per cent increase over the next 12 months.
Bosses at Novelis have since called an emergency meeting to take place on Monday, forcing strike plans, which were scheduled for Sunday, to be put on hold.
A spokesman for Novelis said: “Novelis UK’s labour negotiations with representatives of the GMB and Unite trade unions representing employees at the plant in Latchford are underway.
“The previous pay agreement expired in March. Our objective is a balanced contract that is competitive within the region and the aluminium industry.”
