Royal mail bosses welcome new dog laws
3:00pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in News
ROYAL Mail bosses have welcomed the Government’s consultation on tougher penalties for irresponsible dog owners.
Last month the Warrington Guardian reported nine postmen and women were bitten in the town in the last year by dogs.
Post chiefs said the number of incidents across the country was ‘unacceptably high’ and recently held the UK’s first ‘Dog awareness week’ appealing to owners to keep animals under control when the postman calls.
Shaun Davis, director of health, safety and wellbeing for Royal Mail Group, said: “Dog attacks cause injuries and terrible trauma to our postmen and women.
“Nobody should have to endure this and our postmen and women should not be at increased risk of such attacks simply because of the job they do.”
