THE phrase ‘you’re as young as you feel’ could not be more appropriate for Harry Bayley.

For the adrenaline junkie’s antics on a trip to Switzerland are those you would expect from someone in their early 20s.

But at 91 years of age Harry was not going to let a little thing like age get in his way from jumping off a 4,500 ft mountain with a parachute strapped to his back.

Harry, of Walton Heath Road, Walton, said: “I just thought it was a good thing to do. I have done microlight flying before but nothing like this.”

He jumped off the summit of the Niederhorn mountain near Interlarken after returning to the area on holiday after spending many years in the region in his days as a teacher at Evelyn Street Secondary and Bewsey High Schools.

“I used to take school parties there from the 60s to the 90s when I was a teacher,” added Harry. “At an Evelyn Street Secondary School reunion the ex pupils heard I was planning to go to Interlarken and they presented me with money to enjoy myself and I used it to help with the flight.“ After taking off on the tandem jump with Ruben as his guide the pair took to the scenic skies above Switzerland.

“We got a big updraft of air, and we soared to more than 5,000 ft to fly over the Harder Kulm Mountain and we stayed there until heavy turbulence decided to show up.

“After a 20 minute flight a perfect landing was made.”

And after the ‘fantastic’ experience he declared he wanted to do it all over again.

“We are going back in two years time,” added Harry with a glint in his eye as plans for his second flight at 93 already take shape.
