AROUND 450 jobs are set to be created in a new £35million centre to be opened on Omega.

Councillors at Warrington Borough Council has granted permission for Tavis Perkins to build a 700,000 sq ft regional logistics centre for on Omega North.

It is the latest big name to sign up following Brakes and Hermes.

Construction is expected to finish next year with operation planned for 2015.

Clr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council said: “From what was an empty site in autumn last year, it is amazing to think that by the end of this year, Omega North will only have space left for around 100,000sq ft of development.

“This endorses and reaffirms the confidence that business has in Warrington as an investment location and that Warrington is the place to be”.

Andrew Sutherland, joint Managing Director of Miller Developments, a partner of Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) said: "This marks another important step in a very short period for the ongoing development of the site and we are pleased the flow of activity is continuing to progress at pace, reinforcing Omega North's position as a major logistics hub."

Geoff Cooper, chief executive of the Travis Perkins Group, added: “This is an exciting time for the entire group. We are growing our already extensive product portfolio, and our new RDC in Warrington will enhance our offering by improving the supply of products to our branch network.

“We always work hard to put our customers first, and this is another important development.”

Only two plots now remain available on Omega North and council bosses say there is ‘strong interest’ in the site.

In April Warrington Borough Council also approved a planning application on Omega South (south of the M62), for a new c.600,000 sq ft logistics centre; the Warrington Guardian understands this is for Asda.
