A HAIRDRESSER from a Bewsey salon has been thanking customers for their support after completing a mile-long swim in Lake Windemere.

Rachael Round took on the Great North Open Water Swim, alongside her sister Sarah Dobson and friend Gemma Bailey, to celebrate her grandma surviving ovarian cancer.

But sadly 84-year-old Gladys Dobson did not get to see her granddaughter cross the finish line as she died from a stroke just a week before the event.

Rachael, who has worked at Elle and Esse Hair, Lodge Lane, for more than two years chose to raise cash for charities The Guide Dogs and The Royal Lifeboat Society as they were her grandma’s favourites.

The group were delighted after having so far raised more than £800 for the causes.

Rachel, aged 28, added: “We wanted to follow in the footsteps of our grandma who was always involved in volunteer work and charity fundraising.

“She used to volunteer for the WRVS at Warrington Hospital and raised a lot of money her favourite charities The Royal Lifeboat Society, Darian House and The Guide Dogs.

“The customers were fantastic and donated a lot so I really want to thank them for sponsoring me and family and friends.”

To donate to Rachael, Sarah and Gemma text GLAD50 and your amount from £1 - £10 to 70070.
